Good Friday, Between Noon and Three, in the Heart of Our Home

DSC_0463

Jesus was captured and taken to Pontius Pilate. There,  since it was Passover, Pontius Pilate was going to release one of the prisoners. He asked the crowd "Whom shall I release?" The crowd answered "Barrabas!" Then Pontius Pilate said "What shall I do with Jesus?" The crowd answered "Crucify Him!"

3 "Woman, there is your Son" (Jn 19:26)
4 "My God, My God, why have You forsaken Me?" (Mt 27:46
5 "I am thirsty" (Jn 19:30)

And now we wait.

[Note (because I don't want to forget): Karoline keeps trying to put Mary's figure into the tomb. She insists, "She wants to be with her Jesus!"]

Holy Saturday

“They took the body of Jesus, and bound it in linen cloths withthe spices, as is the burial custom of the Jews. Now in the place where he was crucified there was a garden, and in the garden a new tomb where no one had ever been laid. So because of the Jewish day of Preparation, as the tomb was close at hand, they laid Jesus there.

– John 19:40-42
Entombment
Watch and wait with Christ today. See the dark, feel the cold, and smell the spices. Wait for His wounds to heal and His body to rise again with new life. Wait for victory. Wait for triumph. Wait for joy.

Good Friday

“So they took Jesus, and he went out, bearing his own cross,to the place called the place of a skull, which is called in Hebrew Golgotha. There they crucified him, and with him two others, one on either side, and Jesus between them.”
– John 19:17-18

Crucifixionpainting
Be with Christ today. Stand beside the cross and unite your sufferings with His. Compare your wounds with His and see that they are small, but give them to Him anyway. Compare your strength to His and see that you are weak, but give yourself to Him anyway. Walk with Him, bleed with Him, die with Him today.

Holy Thursday

“Simon Peter said to him, ‘Lord, not my feet only but also my hands and my head!’”
– John 13:9

Call on Christ today — the same Christ who broke bread, passed the cup, and washed the feet of His disciples. Feel his healing hands. Open your heart and let Him in. Let Him feed you. Let Him quench your thirst. Let Him wash you clean.
