Shhh...

"Talkativeness is the throne of vainglory, on which it loves to show itself and make a display. Talkativeness is a sign of ignorance, a door to slander, a guide to jesting, a servant of falsehood, the ruin of godly conviction, a creator and summoner of hopelessness, a precursor of sleep. the dissipation of recollection, the abolition of watchfulness, the cooling of zeal, the darkening of prayer."

~St. John Climacus

The Rhythm of Lent

The weather warms slightly. It’s light outside a little later in theday. The vestments turn to purple. Fast and abstinence become oft-repeated kitchen words. My children know. They know that spring is on its way and the journey to Easter has begun.

They know because this has been their experience every late winter and early spring of their lives. They know because they live the rhythm of the Church year and there is deep and personal meaning in the repetition. Please read the rest here.

Texting for Lent

Did you  know that I got up at 5:00 this morning to send text messages to 105 people? Actually, I got up that early because Christian sent me a text from the basement telling me he was throwing up. Since I was up and texting anyway, I thought I'd just sit down and text a few friends:-).

I was actually sending out a Lenten reminder to subscribers. You can go to Faith and Family Live! and click on the calendar on the sidebar for some simple Small Steps for living Lent.  In addition, you can sign up to receive daily Lenten inspiration (limited to 112 characters) from Small Steps and Faith & Family by submitting your cell phone number in the widget in the left sidebar (on the homepage). You can also subscribe by texting FFLIVE to 41411. This service is free, but standard texting rates apply. You can unsubscribe any time by texting STOP to 41411. Go ahead! Sign up! And I'll text you tomorrow morning.

Good Friday, Between Noon and Three, in the Heart of Our Home

Jesus was captured and taken to Pontius Pilate. There,  since it was Passover, Pontius Pilate was going to release one of the prisoners. He asked the crowd "Whom shall I release?" The crowd answered "Barrabas!" Then Pontius Pilate said "What shall I do with Jesus?" The crowd answered "Crucify Him!"

And now we wait.

[Note (because I don't want to forget): Karoline keeps trying to put Mary's figure into the tomb. She insists, "She wants to be with her Jesus!"]

Holy Saturday

“They took the body of Jesus, and bound it in linen cloths withthe spices, as is the burial custom of the Jews. Now in the place where he was crucified there was a garden, and in the garden a new tomb where no one had ever been laid. So because of the Jewish day of Preparation, as the tomb was close at hand, they laid Jesus there.

– John 19:40-42
Entombment
Watch and wait with Christ today. See the dark, feel the cold, and smell the spices. Wait for His wounds to heal and His body to rise again with new life. Wait for victory. Wait for triumph. Wait for joy.
