Fast

Step away from social media today. Ask God to make you aware of how much time you have gained by refraining from Facebook, or Pinterest, or Twitter, or message boards, or blog reading, or whatever combination distracts you. Ask Him to show you how He wants you to fill that time.

Pray

"Prayer reveals to souls the vanity of earthly goods and please. it fells them with light, strength, and consolation: and gives them a foretasts of the calm bliss of our heavenly home." (St. Rose of Viterbo).

Ask God to conquer your vanity and inspire you to bring calm bliss to your home on earth so that home becomes a foretaste of heaven for your family.

Give

Go outside and play with your children. Don't just watch them; engage.

Extra Yarn

Extra Yarn is actually a new one, despite my promise to myself not to buy new. I couldn't resist! It's the story of Annabel, who finds a box of yarn that just keeps giving. She knits for the entire town and then starts knitting covers for houses and trucks and trees. Her box of yarn keeps giving and she keeps knitting! Her previously dingy gray town brightens beautifully at the work of her hands. When an archduke offers her huge sums of money for box of yarn, things get interesting.

My girls can't get enough of this book!

Ideas for extending the story:

• Knit, of course.
• Dye your own rainbow yarn.
• Write a different ending. What if Annabel had sold the yarn?

When you make dinner for your family tonight, make it good enough for "company." Because they are the company God chose especially for you to keep.

Stop looking around for ways to affirm your self worth. Look up.

Don't just tell God you love Him. Show Him.

Treat your children's feelings with the same care and sensitivity with which you epect others to treat your feelings.
