Book Meme

Joanna tagged me for this meme. I was certain I'd already done it, so I had a chance to try out the Blog Bar searcher in the lefthand sidebar. Sure enough, there is it was in last May's archives. But the rules were a little different. And I like books, so I'll do it again.

Here are the rules this time around:

1. Pick up the nearest book (of at least 123 pages).
2. Open the book to page 123.
3. Find the fifth sentence.
4. Post the next three sentences.
5. Tag five people.

It was nothing formal, but I was amazed at how calm everyone was, how I held their attention and they held mine, and how much we were enjoying this time.

After the first week, I further refined my concept."

That was page 123 of Real Learning, the book closest to my keyboard this morning (I took it out of a mailing envelope). It is taken from the chapter entitled "Religion: An Intimate Relationship with God." The chapter is the story of how we live the liturgy at home and this passage traces the beginning of our tea time tradition.

So, what's the book nearest to you this morning?

What kind of world?

The band Five for Fighting will donate 40 cents to children's autism research for each time this video is viewed online:

What Kind of World Do You Want

Be warned, I watched it with my very verbal and communicative toddler on my lap and I cried. Karoline was signing "baby" and "doggie" and "singing" along with the music. She was "talking" to me the whole time.  I've seen the silence of autism. I've watched the frustration of being unable to communicate. I know the names and beautiful faces of autism and I've wept with the mothers who desperately want a different world for their children. What kind of world do we want? One where all children can tell us what they want, need, feel and one where we can tell them how much we love them. And be understood.
