He's a Big Deal

Dsc_0088_2Stephen played a big tournament in Virginia Beach last weekend. He went down with a teammate and his family. By all accounts, he handled himself very well, away from his family for this very first time. His team won all four games and they were Tournament Champions! Stephen was named Tournament Most Valuable Player.

To Blog Without Sinning

If your earnest desire in blogging is bring glory to God and if your earnest desire in reading blogs is to find encouragement and inspiration in your vocation, then before you hit "enter" this is food for thought and serious prayer. We can be a force for good in the lives of one another or we can be the occasion of sin.  Rebecca's article and the one she discusses  might be the most important things we ever read on the internet.

We can do this

We can do this

Once upon a time, about 16 years ago, when I first contemplated writing a regular column, I worried that I’d run out of things about which to write. A seasoned columnist told me that once a person starts writing, she looks at everything in life as a potential column and as long as I kept living, I’d keep looking for and finding fodder for columns.

Ordinarily, my life is full and busy and active. I am out and about in the world and there’s plenty to observe. A couple of weeks ago, though, my world became very still and my environment grew much, much smaller. After a stay in the hospital, I came home to total bedrest for the rest of my pregnancy. God willing, my “world” for the next eight weeks will be my bedroom.

Today, I recline in front of the computer my husband has rigged at my bedside and ponder the possibilities for writing. I am not in the slightest bit interested in sharing obstetrical details. I can’t write about politics because it’s against editorial policy to endorse a candidate and I cannot keep my opinions to myself (thank goodness for my blog). How to reflect upon my world in print? My “world” right now is my family in a more profound way than ever before. Read the rest here.

Bedrest Funny Pages

Talking to boy child about why he has completed so little academic work this week:

Dad: Would you please explain why you didn't do any history reading or writing?

Boy: I can't sit still and read like that and I really can't sit still to write.

Mom: Well, would like to watch the Teaching Company videos and write on those instead?

Boy: (Rolling his  eyes) You so don't get it! You have no idea how hard it is to sit still for 45 whole minutes!

Mom: Well, actually...

Girls Playing House

Mary Beth: C'mon Katie, I'll play babies with you.

Katie: OK! Let's play like you're the mom and you're on bedrest. You have to get in bed and you have to be on your side and you can't get up. Those are the rules.

Mary Beth: (after climbing into bed) Oh my gracious! Look at all the stuff on the floor. Hurry! Pick it up. It's driving me nuts.

Sarah Palin is called to answer an unique need

“One could say that incase of need, every normal and healthy woman is able to hold a position. And there is no profession which cannot be practiced by a woman.” St. Teresa Benedicta

I cannot think of a more critical time than now to turn our country's attention to the plight of the babies not yet born and particularly, to those with special needs. The world of prenatal expertise advocates daily for the quick murder of children who are deemed unworthy to live among us by a world being enveloped by encroaching darkness. Perhaps there is no one who could be such a courageous, compelling advocate for the least of these as a mother of a newborn baby with Down syndrome. She spoke passionately for these children in front of a secular audience. She was clear and direct about their Creator and about our responsibility. She was a breath of fresh air in a world where God is rarely mentioned except for the compulsory "God Bless America."
