The First Baby I Ever Loved

HappybirthdayKrysti

A long time ago (I won't say how long publicly;-), a baby was born into my life. I still remember the day I met her. My grandmother (who shared the baby's birthday) snuck me into the hospital and I got a quick peek. We went to lunch at a fancy restaurant in Newport and we got hopelessly lost on the way home. Oh, how I loved that baby! I think she set me up for a lifeftime of intense babylove. I remember crawling into her crib in the morning and waking her because I couldn't wait to play with her. And my favorite, favorite thing about that baby was that I could make her smile. I still remember the intense joy that came with seeing her crooked smile.
We grew together, Krysti and I. She was my only real friend until I was twelve. And though she never knew it, it broke my heart to leave her when I went to college.
This morning, my two-year-old woke my sleeping baby. I asked her why.
"So she would smile at me," came the reply.
I understand.
Even now, all these many years later, nothing is so wonderful as seeing your baby sister smile.
Happy Birthday, Krysti.
I wish you many, many smiles.

I finally found a pair of jeans that fit. My sweet husband assures me that the Eddie Bauer "curvy" fit isn't at all the same thing as the Garanimals "husky" fit of oh-so-many years ago. I think his eyes twinkle a bit too much as he promises they are entirely different things.

Whatever.

In her new, wonderful, just-released-yesterday, but-already-read-today book, Nina Plank writes:

Curvy women are smarter, even after accounting for age, family income, race, and ethnicity. Their babies are smarter, too, even after accounting for intelligence of mother and father.

I took a teenaged boy, twelve-year-old girl, a rowdy two-year-old and an infant shopping on Monday. Everyone got what he or she needed.
None of us cried.

I did NOT panic when Michael called during his regular practice time and said, "I'm in the ER." Perhaps this is becoming too routine? This, time, it was his roommate who is injured and not him.
Pray for Rich. Collarbone. Ouch.

What are your successes this week? This is a great exercise in holding ourselves accountable and patting ourselves on the back. April Shower of Photos

Jessica has thought of a theme for April's Shower of Photos and I think I'll borrow it. She's going post photos of things that make her smile. We're working on smiling around here. Remember the motto?
Ever notice how beautiful a house becomes when Mama smiles? I have andI'm endeavoring to make my house so beautiful much, much more often.
I think I'll post the blessings in my life this spring~ the things I need to pause and smile upon.
