I've gotten more emails than I can count asking about the song playing on my blog right now. The song is actually linked into this slideshow, so once that slideshow slips off the front page, I think the song goes, too. Mary Beth was in a total panic when she came to find me the other night. It was bedtime and she could not find Katie anywhere.I'm still not sure why I thought to look in the linen closet. There she was, sound asleep.

While I appreciate the beauty, the materials and some of the methods of Waldorf education, I am not a follower of Rudolf Steiner, his educational philosophy, or his religion. I am a practicing Catholic who is very clear in teaching the faith to her children. Please see this post for any further explanation of incorporating methods or materials that might also appear in Waldorf schools into your home. Take inspiration from what is good and what in in harmony with the true faith and leave the rest. If you can't discern, then leave it all alone.

Yesterday was by far the muddiest of muddy bluebell days. I didn't even bring the bag of notebooks and pencils down to the bank. We hiked the bluebell trail before our friends arrived and it was clear that the day would soon dissolve into a mudfest. So, instead of any organized effort towards nature study and drawing, we settled for a nice hike, some wild playing, and lots of good conversation. A very good day, I think.

They will have faded away by next week. Ah, but it was a very nice time while it lasted.
I have the next two years of academics all planned out. It's mostly still all in my head. But it is a plan.

I didn't cry in front of the baseball coach's wife when she was unreasonable. No comment on my state as we drove away.

I hiked 3-and-a-half miles in the bluebell mud today with my kids. My big, strong, teenaged boy who is a nationally ranked athlete came home and took a nap. I did not. (In fairness, he carried the toddler and I carried the baby, but still...)

ourselves on the back. Mothering and homemaking don't have built in
performance reviews and bonuses. The internet can be a source of
