Last Minute chance to GIVE in a Big Way! (and a BOGO for you)

Give 2

Here is an amazing way to finish off the last of your

Christmas shopping!

We're huge fans of Give Bracelets here in the Foss household. I love, love, love to give these gifts. I'm fairly certain that every teacher one of my children has ever had owns at least one Give bracelet:-). Also, Godmothers, nieces, grandmothers, and all of us:-)

Once you get to know Charlie and the story, you'll understand why we have such a  heart for this endeavor.

Cuff Bracelet 325

The big GIVE goal this year is to increase from the current 5 orphanages to fully supporting all 14. Originally they could not imagine supporting even one, but they have seen what happens each time one person shares with their friends and family.

Give Bracelets fans from Heart of My Home can still get free shipping (code: HEARTOFMYHOME), but

they will also double any order for free this week if you write "Elizabeth Foss sent me" in the comment box during checkout.

The free jewelry will be picked randomly from a very nice selection that was bought in Bali on their last visit to the kids.
Give doubled up on the shipping team for Christmas orders this year and are getting most packages out the same day they are ordered. With the free 3 day shipping, the last day to get orders in before Christmas is this Friday morning 8am PST.

GO! Do this. I promise you won't be sorry and neither will the people on your gift list.

Lord, Hear Our Prayer

DSC_2572

The internet is a formidable force for bringing the comfort and consolation and hope of the Lord to all of us. It can be an incredibily powerful medium for community. There is an unfathomable resource for prayer here. We have on the 'net the privilege of praying for people and of being witness to the miracles brought forth when fervent, faith-filled people pray for one another.

Let's be that community of hope and faith for one another.

How about this idea? What if I pop in here every week, share Sunday's gospel and talk a wee bit about how we can live it and pray it in our homes? And then you tell me how we can pray for you that week? Deal?

{And please, do return and let us know how prayer is bearing fruit.}

Gospel

Matthew 11:2-11

When John the Baptist heard in prison of the works of the Christ,
he sent his disciples to Jesus with this question,
“Are you the one who is to come,
or should we look for another?”
Jesus said to them in reply,
“Go and tell John what you hear and see:
the blind regain their sight,
the lame walk,
lepers are cleansed,
the deaf hear,
the dead are raised,
and the poor have the good news proclaimed to them.
And blessed is the one who takes no offense at me.”

As they were going off,
Jesus began to speak to the crowds about John,
“What did you go out to the desert to see?
A reed swayed by the wind?
Then what did you go out to see?
Someone dressed in fine clothing?
Those who wear fine clothing are in royal palaces.
Then why did you go out? To see a prophet?
Yes, I tell you, and more than a prophet.
This is the one about whom it is written:
Behold, I am sending my messenger ahead of you;
he will prepare your way before you.

Amen, I say to you,
among those born of women
there has been none greater than John the Baptist;
yet the least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he.”

Think

Lord Jesus, master of both the light and the darkness, send your Holy Spirit upon our preparations for Christmas. We who have so much to do seek quiet spaces to hear your voice each day. We who are anxious over many things look forward to your coming among us. We who are blessed in so many ways long for the complete joy of your kingdom. We whose hearts are heavy seek the joy of your presence. We are your people, walking in darkness, yet seeking the light. To you we say, "Come Lord Jesus!"

~Henri Nouwen

Pray
Sweet Baby Jesus, fill me with the interior joy that is your innocence and unadulterated love. Let me breathe deep of holy, infant goodness. Cover me in contented grace. Amen.

Act
Be the Peace. Advent can cause interior turmoil as we seek peace amidst the craziness of the secular world. Instead of struggling against the forces of the commercial Christmas, take a deep breath, say a prayer, and breathe out peace. See that we are a people set apart, a people who look East, to the star. Peace is not to be found in the stores and the parties and the rush. But we are to be found there. We live there and we bring Christ to those places. It's hard, I know. But stand up straight, square your shoulders, inhale grace, and smile. Now go forth, knowing that God's got this. He's stood in that line. More importantly, He's already paid the price. So, you can be a blessing to every clamoring, chaotic scene. You have Christ within you. You can be the peace.

How can I pray for you this week?

when wishes come true (lots of wishes; all on the same night)

When she was just a tiny girl, squeezed in the middle of five brothers, she danced in her first Nutcracker. Keenan Kampa was the Sugar Plum Fairy. And Mary Beth set her sweet five-year-old heart on one goal. She wanted to be the Sugar Plum Fairy.

Her very first dance teacher gave her a special pointe shoe, saved from her own dancing days. And on it one word:

Someday is today. And she's got THREE little sisters to dance beside her.

And this boy? The one who idolizes his big brother? He'll be true to his word and honor his promise. He will play The Prince. He'll desperately wish that princes were allowed cell phones so that he could watch ESPN while he sits on his throne. Because, you see, sometimes two different dreams come true At. The. Very. Same. Time.

While Kingdom of Sweets comes alive tonight at home, Patrick will be playing in the College Cup semi-finals in Philadelphia. One game from a national championship.

Big night.

It's been more of the same here this week. I did take on the Snow Queen challenge and spent some very happy time stitching up some magical snow on a tutu. We're all pretty happy with the result.

Beyond that, it's been gift sewing. Can't show too much of that. Here's just a bit:

I read and re-read Lidia Bastianich's Nonna, Tell Me a Story: Lidia's Christmas Kitchen. I have to admit, she had me at the title. This is a darling story of an Italian grandmother who shares her Christmas traditions with her grandchildren and then spruces those traditions up a bit to make them work in modern America. Just darling!

(I've created a new category here, Nonna's House. New season in the heart of our home.)

So tell us all about your reading and stitching! Do you have Christmas secrets you can share in the combox?
